Join our Book Buddies program!

Book Buddies at Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library is a volunteer program in which teens (entering 7th through 12th grades) will read to children (entering 1st through 4th grades), and vice versa, to foster better reading skills. In addition to reading and listening, we will be playing some word and reading-focused games to sharpen these skills! Teens will earn volunteer hours for each session they participate in.

This program will take place on:

• Mondays (5-6:30 PM) at both the Main Library and Village Branch
• Wednesdays (5-6:30 PM) at the Main Library
• Saturdays, July 11 and August 1 (12-4 PM) at the Main Library.

Please note that while the sessions are 90 minutes, you are not be required to stay the entire time. Roughly half the session will be reading, and the other half will be playing word games with the kids, like Scrabble Jr. and Bananagrams, to make reading more fun!

Please fill out the registration form by clicking the ‘Sign Up for Book Buddies’ button below. The teen librarian will be in touch to set up an in-person interview where you’ll meet the head of the children’s department to go over our expectations, your volunteering role, and sign a commitment contract. Your parent or guardian must also sign this contract.
